Congratulations to all of our community impact spotlight winners and nominees!

Katie Du
Embodies School Spirit

Katie exemplifies the spirit of "Sloanies helping Sloanies" through her tireless dedication to helping classmates achieve their career goals. As a leader of PM Club recruiting efforts, she has organized and hosted workshops that demystify the product management recruiting process, giving students practical tools and frameworks to succeed. Beyond her PM Club leadership, Katie also serves as a Career Peer, where she consistently goes above and beyond expectations. She is a steady, reliable presence for anyone navigating the stress of recruiting, whether that means walking through interview prep, sharing candid reflections on her own recruiting journey, or helping classmates evaluate and negotiate offers. What truly sets Katie apart is her openness and generosity with information. In an environment where recruiting knowledge can feel guarded, Katie takes the opposite approach. She proactively shares her experiences with interview formats, topics, and strategies, ensuring that no one is left without the insights they need. She is especially intentional about reaching out to first-year students, meeting them where they are and providing honest, actionable advice during one of the most uncertain stretches of the MBA experience.

Jonathan Qu
Embodies School Spirit

JQ truly embodies our school spirit and motto of Sloanies helping Sloanies. As Co-President of AAA, he has made a profound impact not only within the AAA community, but across Sloan as a whole by consistently bringing people and clubs together. His leadership is defined by inclusivity, generosity and an unwavering belief that everyone should feel welcomed and seen at Sloan and you can tell his passion for that through all that he's contributed to the school. Within AAA, JQ has gone beyond planning social events (what AAA has historically mostly planned) to intentionally create space for meaningful conversations and connection. He took the initiative to organize the national security conversation on identity and patriotism with Professors Gang Chen and Mark Wu - an event that brought together students across backgrounds and interests to talk about a very difficult topic. He is always the first to raise his hand to "help" others to organize events but often times, he is the one pushing ideas forward and planning the events from end to end. These events require significant effort and have an outsized impact on the community. Many of AAA's most meaningful events simply would not have happened without JQ's initiative and persistence. One of the most impactful examples of his leadership was spearheading AAA's first-ever fall retreat, which required months of planning over the summer. JQ championed this effort with the explicit goal of helping first-year students feel a strong sense of belonging earlier in the school year. True to his character, his vision for the retreat was ambitious and deeply inclusive. He consistently pushed for scale and inclusivity, never wanting to turn anyone away. As a result, AAA collaborated with SABC to host a retreat with over 100 participants. JQ has played a large part in growth AAA's community and helping it establish as one of the most active and engaged communities on campus. Beyond AAA, JQ continually looks for ways to unite the broader Sloan community. He actively seeks opportunities to collaborate with other smaller clubs and amplify their voices. A standout example was organizing a Welcome Back to School event at Encore in collaboration with 9+ affinity clubs - an unprecedented level of cross-club coordination. Throughout these efforts, JQ is consistently generous with his time, quick to share credit and intentional about giving over clubs and leaders the spotlight.

Chris Hayden Embodies School Spirit

Chris leads the Education Club and the Prison Education Initiative. I think he embodies the best of the Sloan community in taking the amazing education we have access to and sharing it with those who lack the same opportunities as us. He also doesn't shy away from critically questioning things and sharing his curiosities with those around him. Finally, he's a wonderful core mentor to 2 core teams of MBA first years, and does his best to connect them to the resources they need and could benefit from.

Chandler Smith
Inclusive & Welcoming

Chandler is a huge asset to the MIT Sloan community. As CBC for the Indian Ocean, she sets the tone for an inclusive, welcoming culture and makes sure people actually feel like they belong. She has spent a ton of time preparing events and activities for the Indian Ocean retreat, always focused on helping classmates build real relationships instead of just checking a box. Her leadership style is collaborative and thoughtful, and she is always looking around the room to see who might be missing, then pulling those people in. Beyond her role as CBC, Chandler creates community at Sloan in a lot of other ways. She pitched to the Sloan Senate to formalize Pickleball as an official rec sport and now serves as co-president of the Pickleball club. She is also on the Tech Summit operations team, is volunteering for AdMIT Day, and has already expressed interest in serving as a TA and Core Mentor, which says a lot about how invested she is in supporting both current and future Sloanies. Chandler's impact clearly extends well beyond her immediate circle. She keeps a pulse on what is happening across oceans and brings good ideas back to her own community. In everything she does, she shows a ton of school spirit, creativity, and genuine care for the people around her. She makes Sloan feel smaller, more supportive, and more connected.

Lucia Magot
Embodies School Spirit

Reinvented the Family Business Club: Lucia is reinventing what the club means and the value it offers to members, making it one of the most engaging clubs [for me] at Sloan. She is working to create an environment where each of the club's members can grow, thrive, and do our best work. There are so many activities to attend [in conjunction with groups] outside of Sloan because she has managed to engage with the family business clubs of multiple other universities and local non-student organizations.

Muele Wilcox

Inclusive & Welcoming February Winner

Muele embodies the spirit of Sloan’s community, always going out of her way to connect and reconnect people in the most thoughtful and genuine ways. Following the New Zealand Sloan Study Tour, she has taken multiple efforts to bring the group back together post-trip. Whether it’s organizing gatherings or simply sending a message to check in, she ensures that connections made at Sloan don’t fade but instead grow stronger. Every time you see Muele, she greets you with the most wonderful tone, a giant smile, and a warm hug that instantly makes you feel at home. Beyond keeping existing friendships alive, Muele actively creates new ones. She recently introduced her nominator to another Sloan student they hadn’t met yet, and they ended up co-hosting an AdMIT dinner together. That introduction allowed her peers to expand their Sloan network in ways they wouldn’t have otherwise. Muele’s kindness, energy, and intentionality in building community are truly special. She makes Sloan feel smaller, more welcoming, and more connected.

Rumi Le

Demonstrates Immense Future Leadership Potential, December Winner

I am honored to nominate Rumi for the "Demonstrates Immense Future Leadership Potential" category of the Sloan Community Spotlight. As a 4th-year undergraduate Sloanie, Rumi exemplifies the qualities of a future leader: maturity, intelligence, organization, and kindness. I had the privilege of meeting Rumi during the Fall 2024 MIT Experiential Trips Program to Los Angeles, where her leadership potential shone brightly. Rumi's intellectual curiosity drives her to seek out and understand perspectives beyond her own, a vital skill for impactful leadership. She actively fosters meaningful connections with those around her, creating an environment of collaboration and mutual growth. What sets Rumi apart is her exceptional ability to balance academic rigor with the invaluable lessons of experiential learning. She approaches her coursework with diligence, completing assignments promptly and with great care. At the same time, she deeply values relationship building and the practical, hands-on learning opportunities that expand her understanding of the world and her role within it. Rumi's ability to navigate these demands with poise, along with her natural curiosity and empathy, make her a beacon of future leadership potential. She inspires everyone around her to strive for excellence while staying grounded in kindness and respect. I have no doubt that Rumi will continue to make a significant impact wherever her journey takes her.

Bria Hardin-Boyer

Creativity, November Winner

I am honored to nominate Bria Hardin-Boyer for the Community Impact Spotlight in the "Creativity" category. Bria’s incredible vision and dedication to the Sloan community are perfectly exemplified through her design of the Made at MIT Sloan Letterman Jackets. The letterman jackets are more than just a swag item—they are a testament to Bria’s creativity and her ability to bring people together through shared identity and pride. Her epic design not only celebrates the uniqueness of the Sloan experience but also reflects her careful consideration of inclusivity, ensuring that the jackets represent and resonate with the entire Sloan community. Bria's creativity extends far beyond her design work. She brings energy and life into every corner of Sloan, drawing from her unique talents and experiences to create moments that leave a lasting impression. Her ability to channel creativity into tangible outcomes, like the Made at MIT Sloan jackets, showcases her passion for building community and making every Sloanie feel like they belong. Bria’s contributions have left an indelible mark on the Sloan experience, and her efforts deserve to be celebrated. She has not only brightened the community with her creative talents but has also created a legacy of inclusion, pride, and camaraderie. I wholeheartedly support her nomination for this recognition.
