Community Impact Spotlight
Join the Student Life Office in shining a spotlight on your amazing fellow Sloanies and celebrating their contributions and the positive impact they've made on the greater MIT Sloan community! Nominate a club leadership team or individual for our monthly Community Impact Spotlight by filling out this short form.
Nominations for this month's spotlight are due on Thursday, November 21, 2024.
Hosting Inclusive Events: Pre-Event
Practice conscious inclusion and host events that enable all individuals to engage and participate fully. With accessibility in mind, consider the following when planning your meeting:
Include questions about accessibility needs in the registration form
Solicit venues that cater to accessibility needs, for instance, elevator access, ADA restrooms, ramps, clear signs, etc.
Sharing any available materials in advance will be helpful to attendees who are blind/have low vision, are deaf/have low hearing, are neurodivergent, or for whom English is a second language
Organizing a trip with your student organization allows you to test your leadership skills, gain an in-depth look at a particular industry or geography, and build contacts and a community that will help you in the future.
The following process must be followed for any student-organized travel - including treks, retreats, or visits to more than one company (even locally):
Step 2: a brief meeting with Delya Hasanova for domestic travel or Paul Buckley for international travel
Visit our Trek Planning page for a detailed overview of all the policies and procedures to consider.
Office Highlight: Career Development Office
The Career Development Office (CDO) partners with club leaders to help build relationships with key employers and create career programming that aligns with the interests of various club memberships. Some sample ways that the CDO can support you are through Tools & Data, Marketing, Events, Logistics & Connections to Market:
Providing industry insights, data, and reports highlighting trends
Collaborative marketing to drive student engagement
Communicating needs, goals, and sentiments between Employers, Clubs and the CDO
Twice a year, the Institute Community & Equity Office (ICEO) offers funding for events and programs that support the community and new ideas for promoting a sense of belonging, enabling achievement, and embracing the diverse composition of our community.
