Leadership Foundations

"By participating in Leadership Foundations, you will gain self-awareness, connect with peers, and explore areas for leadership development while at Sloan."

—Abby Berenson, Director, MIT Leadership Center

To foster your leadership development, the MIT Leadership Center offers newly admitted MBA students the Leadership Foundations program, a pre-campus-arrival opportunity that helps you reflect on your leadership capabilities, set development goals, and connect with peers and the Sloan community.

As a participant, you will:

  • complete the x360 Leadership Development Survey with at least five of your observers of choice (i.e. managers, peers, direct reports, etc.). The survey aggregates observer feedback and your self-assessment of your leadership capabilities.
  • Upon completion, you will receive a Leadership Capabilities Report (sample report).
  • You will then complete a Reflection Worksheet (sample worksheet questions), which helps to summarize learnings from the x360 and reflects your values, aspirations, and lived experience.
  • After we receive your Reflection Worksheet, a guide (Sloan faculty, staff, or alumni) will invite you and one or more new MBA students to join a facilitated 90-minute discussion (via Zoom). You will explore the patterns observed from your report and begin to set leadership development goals.
