J-PAL Lecture Series: Thinking Globally to Mitigate Climate Change: Paying Local Communities to Protect Forests

In this Data, Decisions, Public Policy (D2P2) talk, economist Seema Jayachandran (Northwestern) will discuss approaches to mitigating climate change through reducing deforestation in low-income countries—without exacerbating poverty. Seema will discuss the findings from a randomized evaluation of a “payments for ecosystem services” program in Uganda, which quantified the amount of forest preserved, the resulting reduction in carbon emissions, and the cost-effectiveness of this approach to addressing climate change. Faculty Lunch Series with Gita Rao

Enjoy lunch and conversation with Gita Rao, the Senior Lecturer in Finance, and Associate Faculty Director of the Master of Finance program at the MIT Sloan School of Management. She has over two decades of experience in global investing, asset allocation, risk management, and client service. In addition, she has managed socially responsible portfolios and teaches a course on social impact investing at MIT Sloan. Dr. Rao is the founder and president of Aspari Capital, a consultancy focused on quantitative research and portfolio strategies for institutional investors. Students who register will be included in a randomized lottery for the 12 available seats, and you will be contacted the week before the lunch if you are selected to attend. Sustainability Lunch Series: Aggregate Confusion Project
