Student Organization Spotlight: Product Management Club
The PM Club embodies the spirit of MIT’s motto Mens et Manus (“mind and hand”) and is dedicated to providing members both the knowledge and experience in product management by creating opportunities to apply these ideas in the real world. As one of the largest clubs on campus, boasting an active annual membership of 400+ students and alumni, the club provides critical value to MIT Sloan students looking to transition into and advance within the product management field.
Favorite Club Activity from 2022-2023:
In addition to the Product Conference, our favorite activity was organizing the Product Management (PM) Lab during IAP, which pairs Sloan students with a hosting company and allows them to experience what it’s like to work as a product manager. In 2023, 87 students participated in PM Lab, helping more than 50 companies solve real-world product problems.
Favorite Club Activity We're Looking Forward to Planning this Year:
Mention an even bigger, better PM Conference... We are ramping up our effort to organize a series of company visits in the fall to facilitate both PM internship and full-time recruiting. This is the first time we are launching this event and we are thrilled to bring our East Coast community together. But before that, we are going to host a back-to-school welcome happy hour in September, during which first- and second year Sloanies will mingle and enjoy the tail end of summer.
What Does Being a Club Member Mean to You?
Being a PM Club member means both joining a supportive and fun community as well as embracing new career opportunities at Sloan. While we organize numerous professional events throughout the year, we value the ability to lean on our fellow classmates and the Class of 2023 for internship experiences, recruiting advice and general academic support. As a member, we could access the comprehensive PM interview kit, coffee chats with past PMs, recruiters and target companies, and networking opportunities such as industry panels/events. We also enjoy peer coaching, mock interviewing one another and simply enjoying life together at the MIT Sailing Pavilion.
ProductCon:
The PM Club also held its inaugural Product Conference in February 2023, the first student-led product event run by a U.S. business school. It convened over 400 participants and speakers from leaders in the tech space including (but not limited to) Google, Microsoft, Meta, Amazon, Salesforce, Formlabs, Fidelity and more. While official recruitment of first year PM Club VPs begins in the fall, we are looking for enthusiastic Sloanies who are keen to begin their leadership journey within the PM Club early. If you want to be a VP for the 2024 Product Conference to help us brainstorm new ideas, define the strategy and build networks with high-profile speakers and companies, please submit a first round application here by August 1.
