DE&I Mini Challenge
In each newsletter, we’ll share a small, actionable challenge to encourage you to reflect, learn, and grow your understanding of DE&I.
WHAT: This holiday season, take some time to learn about the Indigenous people whose land we now call "home" by exploring these maps. Then, explore these resources to learn more about Native history, focusing on Native perspectives. Consider adding a Native American author to your winter reading list.
WHY: November was National Native American Heritage Month. However, holidays such as Thanksgiving suggest a two-dimensional and inaccurate portrayal of the relationship between Indigenous Peoples and European colonists. Often, Native and Indigenous history is whitewashed and erased by mainstream history books. It is necessary to reevaluate our understanding of our national histories in order to stand in solidarity and advocate for restorative justice for Native communities.
