Latinx and Hispanic Heritage Month
September 15 – October 15 is Latinx and Hispanic Heritage Month!

This nationally recognized heritage month celebrates the Hispanic and Latinx communities, culture,ÔÇ»history, influence, and achievements! This month also coincides with the anniversaries of independenceÔÇ»for many Latin American countries: September 15th celebrates independence for Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua. September 16th recognizes Mexico’s independence and September 18th recognizes Chile’s. This month, we encourage you to celebrate Latinx and Hispanic Heritage Month with fellow Sloanies by learning about the culture, history, and traditions, and byÔÇ»participating in the many educational and celebratory events! ÔÇ»

The MIT Sloan Hispanic Business Club (HBC) is hosting many events to commemorate this month, here are just a few:

Morocco & Libya

Within the past week, an earthquake in Morocco and flooding in Libya have led to massive devastation. We recognize that our students may have family and friends in or near Morocco and Libya and we hope that you and your loved ones are safe. We understand that times like these are incredibly difficult, and want you to know we are here to offer support. Moroccan students in the Boston Area (from Harvard, MIT, Boston University, Northeastern, Tufts, and Hult) are raising funds to help the victims of the earthquake. If you wish to support these relief efforts, please donate using the link. Donations will be disbursed to local organizations assisting with relief efforts on the ground. Please know the Student Life Team is here to support you, and don’t hesitate to reach out to us, your degree program, or any of the offices listed below.

BULLETIN BOARD

Camp Sloan is HERE! Save the date for Fri. 10/13-Sun. 10/15!

We’re excited to announce the dates for Camp Sloan this year - 10/13-10/15! For those of you that don’t know what Camp Sloan is, it’s one of Sloan’s biggest traditions. We’ll hike, relax, and bond across programs while staying in cabins in the White Mountains of New Hampshire.´©Å Sloanies often say this weekend is one of their favorite memories from the entire Sloan experience!

We’ll be spread across two different sites - Mizpah Hut and Pinkham Notch. Each site will have a big cabin, stunning fall views, hikes for all levels, fun games, onesies (a Camp Sloan tradition!), great food, and most importantly: a great opportunity to meet and hang out with people from different years and programs! ´©Å

As there’s limited capacity given the size of the cabins, registration will be determined via lottery, so please fill out this form ASAP. The cost will be $199 per camper (less than half of the true trip cost, as the rest is subsidized by Student Life). Apps are due by 5pm on Wednesday 9/20! More info and sign-up here: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdmQEZJXm82bmPVBM0HM7mL_9yiW4Jc6_gqz0JJ2BNntPXBJA/viewform

You can also use your MIT ID to obtain a mask from the vending machine outside of Student Life.

Testing: If you need a PCR test, please consult your personal healthcare provider. Take home tests are also available at major pharmacies including the CVS in Kendall Square.

Bike Auction

On Friday, September 15, the MIT Police and the Parking & Transportation Office will hold a bicycle auction of used or abandoned bicycles, weather permitting.

  • The auction will run from 12 noon to 2:30 PM at 290 Albany Street in Cambridge.
  • The lot opens at 11:30 AM for an opportunity to preview the bicycles.
  • A valid MIT ID is required to participate.

Proceeds from the auction go toward campus bicycle initiatives, and payment is by credit card only. Note: There is a three-bike maximum purchase per individual.
