Details

Conscious experience provides an incomplete account of mental life. People often develop implicit expectations, beliefs, and attitudes about social groups that they are not aware of or are not able to control. Further, we are often unable to recognize the influence of implicit biases on our judgment and behavior.

Though there is currently no "magic pill" for reducing bias at the individual or organizational level, this talk will offer practical steps to address implicit bias in organizations.

Carlee Beth Hawkins is an Assistant Professor of Psychology at the University of Illinois Springfield. She is also a researcher with Project Implicit. Her research interests concern motivations and strategies for reducing the impact of bias on social and political judgment and behavior.
