This session offers MBA students an opportunity to learn effective approaches cultivating "voice efficacy" - confidence and facility in speaking up in professional settings - especially when we encounter bias, harassment, and bullying. MIT Sloan Senior Lecturer Daena Giardella and a team of student "actors" will present and enact scenarios based on real life stories, which demonstrate unconscious or overt bias as well as harassment. Workshop audience participants will be invited to help the protagonists "Speak Up" or intervene constructively. Participants will also learn tools to help them navigate these kinds of situations effectively as leaders and managers in organizational settings. The Southern Poverty Law Center's Speak Up! framework as well as effective Active Bystander Intervention techniques will be presented to give participants useful strategies to use their voices to become pro-active and constructive allies. This interactive workshop is sponsored by SWIM and Male Allies and will be offered via Zoom. There is a room reserved for participants to join individually from their own devices.
