SECC Kickoff + Commonwealth Fusion Systems (CFS)

Join us for the 2026-2027 Sloan Energy & Climate Club (SECC) Kickoff! This event is open to both members and non-members, so it's a great opportunity to learn more about SECC and how to get involved.

We'll start at 11:45 AM with an overview of the club, our plans for the year, and share the open leadership roles.

We'll then welcome David Tressler, Chief Legal Officer and Corporate Secretary of Commonwealth Fusion Systems (CFS). CFS spun out of MIT in 2018 and has become the world's largest private fusion company. In July, CFS raised $1 billion, bringing its total funding to $4 billion, roughly 30% of all capital raised by the fusion industry to date. The company is completing a demonstration machine in Devens, MA, designed to prove fusion can produce net energy, and is advancing plans for its first commercial fusion power plant in Virginia.

David leads CFS's legal and compliance team and plays a key role in the company's regulatory, IP, and commercialization strategy. Before CFS, he served as Chief Legal Officer at 6K and spent nearly seven years as Deputy General Counsel at Waymo, where he helped bring a first-of-its-kind technology through an entirely new regulatory environment.
