Illiquid assets have traditionally been the domain of fundamentally oriented analysis and investment, but the landscape has been gradually changing with different prospects emerging for the future. The talk makes an overview of the historical challenges to quantitative investing which illiquid assets have posed until the recent past. Subsequently, we shall explore a variety of econometric techniques, model approaches, and recent technological developments that already have started to or hold substantial promise to transform the field of illiquid alternative asset investment. Along the way we will provide examples from the world of real estate, venture capital, and private equity investing, and using the illiquid assets theme as a convenient segue, we will open the discussion for the audience to provide their own views on the investment paradigm of the future.
