Details
Touring MIT's Nuclear Reactor Lab is a unique experience that allows participants to learn more about nuclear science and engineering, radiation facts and safety, the types of research conducted at the lab, how the facility is operated, and more, all while viewing the facility from the inside (including the control room)! Available free to the MIT community, school groups, non-profit educational organizations, nuclear industry professionals, and collaborators, we tailor our tours based on your interests.
Additional important things to note:
-Everyone must bring their MIT ID, this will be checked upon arrival. Anyone without acceptable ID will not be able to go on the tour.
-Everyone must wear closed toed shoes (no sandals or flip-flops) in order to be allowed on the tour. It is also recommended that participants do not wear high heels and that any shorts or skirts be at least knee length, though this is not a requirement. Please keep in mind that we are a light-industrial facility and safety is a priority.
-Cameras, mobile phones, bags, backpacks, coats, food, drink, and chewing gum are not allowed in the restricted area of the building. There is a designated area where everyone will be able to leave their belongings for the duration they're in the restricted area. The use of cameras and recording devices is strictly prohibited. Anyone who fails to comply with this policy will result in the individual(s) being reported to the appropriate government authorities.
-There are two sets of stairs (with handrails) participants will need to walk up and down at different points during the tour. Please notify me at least 24 hours in advance if anyone in your group has issues with mobility that would prevent them from being able to walk up or down a flight of stairs so that we are able to accommodate them.
Food Provided (Boxed lunch will be provided before the start of the event at 12 PM. However, food is not allowed to be carried in the restricted area.)
