MFin Speaker Series: Piero Novelli

Piero Novelli is currently Global Head of M&A for UBS, and a Sloan alumnus.
He was appointed Chairman of Global Mergers and Acquisitions as well as Group Managing Director in 2013. In July 2016 Piero was appointed sole Global Head of Advisory Services including Global M&A. He joined the firm in 2004 after having worked in the M&A department of Merrill Lynch, where he left as Head of European M&A and Head of European Industrials .
He is also a member of the Supervisory Board of UBS Deutschland AG. Piero has been engaged in a number of large and complex, public M&A transactions, often contested, for an overall deal volume of approximately US$600 billion. Notable transactions include Mannesmann's defense against Vodafone, defense of ABN Amro, defense of Arcelor against Mittal, the unsolicited bid by GasNat for Endesa and the hostile takeover by Enel of Endesa. Piero has recently advised Whirlpool on the acquisition of Indesit, Finmeccanica on the sale of its transport division, Dufry on its acquisition of World Duty Free, Holcim on its merger with Lafarge and Syngenta on its defense against Monsanto and sale to ChemChina , Lonza on the takeover of Capsugel, Clariant on its announced merger with Huntsman. Piero holds a Master's degree in Management from MIT Sloan School of Management, Cambridge MA and a Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering from Universita Degli Studi Di Roma, Rome.
