15.005 Sloan Intensive Period (SIP)

About SIP

In addition to your Core Semester and 144 elective units, all students are required to take one spring semester of 15.005 SIP (1 unit, P/D/F grading) to graduate. SIP is a unique learning experience that encourages the practice of leadership, collaboration, and innovation.

SIP will be held March 16-20, 2026 and March 15-19, 2027,  SIP is offered every spring term and activities run from 3 days to 2 weeks (including spring break) based on the activity selected.

LGOs are not required to complete SIP.

15.005 does not count towards your 54 semester unit limit or your 144 units. SIP is a requirement for your MBA degree.

What Counts for SIP?

  • All three 15.228 MBA International Study Tours
  • Certificate Activities: E&I Certificate: Silicon Valley Study Tour and EM Certificate: EM Hackathon. Check with each certificate coordinator.
    • E&I Certificate: Silicon Valley Study Tour
    • EM Certificate: EM Hackathon
    • PM Certificate: Product Management Study Tour in NYC
    • Check with each certificate coordinator.
  • Selected Action Learning courses with include on-site work during SIP week: 15.226 Modern Business in Southeast Asia: ASEAN Lab; 15.784 Operations Lab (only specific projects that require a minimum of 3-days in company visits and research during SIP Week are eligible, no exceptions); 15.S67 Real Estate Lab

  • One 2 or 3-day on-campus SIP workshops. Monday-Thursday. Bidding for SIP workshops takes place at the end of February. Check the Sloan Course Browser for previous workshops offered. Select Spring SIP term.

Conferences, Treks, and Club events are not eligible for SIP credit.

How to enroll

  • All first-year students, and any second-year students who haven’t completed SIP, will be automatically enrolled in 15.005 SIP (1 unit P/D/F) for the spring term.
  • If you plan to complete SIP this spring, keep 15.005 in your registration.
  • If you are a first-year student planning to complete SIP next year, drop 15.005 in WebSIS using the online add/drop form to avoid receiving an F grade.
  • To fulfill the SIP requirement, you must enroll in a SIP activity in addition to the 15.005 course. You can either:
    • Register for a study tour or spring course (listed on the left) that counts for SIP, or
    • Participate in an on-campus workshop
  • If you are not enrolled in another SIP activity, you will automatically get access to SIP workshop bidding in late February. Workshop details will be posted in the 15.005 Canvas site.

How to complete SIP

  • Successfully participate in your SIP activity.  Full attendance is required to earn a passing grade and receive credit for the requirement.
  • Check your 15.005 credit and grading in MBA degree audit system Stellic at the end of Spring Term.
  • Once you've completed this requirement, you are not required to participate in additional SIP terms.
