Hello AA Staff!
We hope your summer has been good so far. If you haven’t already, now is the time to start seriously preparing your courses for the Fall semester. The first day of classes is Wednesday, September 4, and as always, we recommend having your Canvas sites published at least a week before. Here are some key points and deadlines you should be thinking about as the term start approaches; also refer to the STS Term Start Checklist.
Build Canvas
If you and your teaching team have decided that the Canvas site can be copied from a previous term, fill out the Copy Course Content form. The STS deadline to copy for Fall is Wednesday, August 21. Remember to refer to the Gold Standards guide for recommendations and best practices as you build out your sites.
Prepare Materials
Generate a Study.Net course bundle by using this request form. There is no formal deadline for this, but we recommend submitting the request by Monday, August 5. For questions about copyright and fair use, consult the MIT Libraries guidelines.
Finalize TA Hiring
To be in compliance with the Grad Student Union CBA, TA appointments must be submitted by Thursday, August 1. Be sure that your TAs have contacted Sloan Student Funding to begin the application process. Details about all the new appointment requirements can be found on the Office of the Vice Chancellor website.
Make AV Arrangements
Examine the syllabus with your teaching team and identify AV needs. For regular recurring AV Support during the hours of 4pm-9pm, please submit a service request for here. For other events, like remote guest speakers, in-class or online simulations, panel of speakers, etc, complete an Audio Visual Support for an Event form for each occurrence.
Manage Student Enrollment
Class rosters are managed by various groups at MIT Sloan. Consult this breakdown of the different types of participant roles and who to contact for support by type. Refer to guidance from SES and the MIT Registrar for additional information.

Attend an Info Boost
STS: Tuesday, August 13, 10:00-11:00
The STS Teaching and Learning Technologies team will present on the areas their team provides support for, including Canvas and AV support. The second half will be an “ask me anything” session, so come prepared with your questions.
SES: Tuesday, August 27, 12:00-1:00
The Sloan Educational Services team will present on the registration process (add/drop, waitlist, class lists, etc.). The second half will be an “ask me anything” session, so come prepared with your questions.
Both sessions have a remote option, but we encourage you to attend in person. (Breakfast/lunch will be provided!) RSVP below; Outlook invites will also follow this email.
