The Leadership Now Project and the Entertainment, Media, and Sports Club are proud to co-host this panel discussion about leading through change in the news media industry. This event features two accomplished news executives who can provide perspective on the industry and leadership more generally. Free lunch will be provided for attendees. Participants include:

Evan Smith: Co-founder and senior adviser at The Texas Tribune, where he served as CEO from 2009 to 2022. He’s also a senior adviser at Emerson Collective, where he works closely with the leadership teams of nonprofit news organizations around the country. Previously, Evan spent nearly 18 years at Texas Monthly, stepping down in August 2009 as the magazine’s president and editor in chief. Evan is also the host of “Overheard with Evan Smith,” a weekly half-hour interview program that airs on PBS stations around the country.

Margaret Low: CEO of WBUR in Boston — an award-winning producer of high-quality journalism on-air, online, on demand, and on stage at CitySpace. WBUR reaches nearly seven million listeners across the country each week with its two national programs, On Point and Here & Now — a midday newsmagazine produced with NPR. Before joining WBUR in January 2020, Low was president of AtlanticLIVE, The Atlantic’s events division, which produced more than 100 conferences a year across the country during her tenure. Prior to The Atlantic, Low enjoyed a storied career at NPR, spanning decades. She first walked through the doors as an overnight production assistant on Morning Edition and rose through the ranks to become senior vice president for news — NPR’s top editorial job.

Dana White, professor of Organizational Processes and Advanced Leadership Communications at MIT Sloan, will be moderating the discussion.
