MO+I (More Open+Inclusive) Session Two - Microaggressions: Costly Conflict
Details
More Open+Inclusive (MO+I) is the second offering of our Open+Inclusive series. Open+Inclusive (O+I) is designed to support the necessary changes in work climate in culture that are highlighted in the IBIS report, Quality of Life surveys, and ongoing discussions through tools like RealTalk. MO+I builds on the learnings from O+I by offering opportunities to explore best practices for enhancing psych safety and teamwork, taking structural approaches to problem-solving, and achieving team goals.
MO+I is segmented into two (2) separate sessions that invite participants to discuss how to create cultural change utilizing research frameworks, best practices, and their own experiences.
In Session One, we will showcase a more structured approach to illustrating how power contributes to team performance. Specifically, we will discuss how power contributes to performance and what we need to do to realize those benefits.
In Session Two, we focus on microaggressions. We will work on creating processes for dealing with microaggressions, which are a specific form of disrespect and represent a kind of power imbalance (more likely to happen to people who lack power), and illustrate the value of those processes for addressing bad outcomes in general.
Please note: Participants will sign up (register) for MO+I Session One and MO+I Session 2 separately. Enrolling in the first session does not automatically enroll you for the second session. Session One is a necessary prerequisite for attending Session Two. You have the choice of deciding what fits your schedule best as we will be offering Sessions 1 and 2 throughout the academic year.
If scheduling is an issue, please contact sloandei@mit.edu for assistance.
MIT and MIT Sloan are committed to providing an environment that is accessible to individuals with disabilities. Thanks to feedback from past participants, we have made several changes to the O+I curriculum to ensure that it is a welcoming and useful course for everyone. We continue to learn from those who are open to sharing their experiences and needs with us. If you would like to check with us about course accessibility, please contact us via email at your earliest convenience (sloandei@mit.edu).
