What? RealTalk is a methodology and technology-based approach to constructive dialogue developed here at MIT by our colleagues in the Media Lab. As delivered to MIT Sloan, RealTalk is a collaboration between the MIT Sloan Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) and the MIT Center for Constructive Communication (CCC).

Why? The methodology promotes listening among participants, fostering a sense of shared understanding across differences and commonalities. It promotes learning by identifying themes and patterns across participant groups, which MIT Sloan DEI and CCC can use to promote shared awareness of community members' perspectives and needs.

How? RealTalk consists of small group (4-6 people), professionally facilitated conversations that take one hour to complete. Conversations are recorded. This allows our MIT Sloan DEI team and CCC to share conversation highlights, patterns, and themes with decision-makers and the community at large. Each participant retains individual control of the visibility of their transcripts and voice recordings. They may opt to remain anonymous and even use CCC’s new “voice conversion” technology for increased privacy.

Accessibility: Participants will be invited to indicate any access needs when completing their registration on SloanGroups. Please contact sloandei@mit.edu with additional questions.
