Details

The MIT Sloan Latin American Startup competition promotes entrepreneurship in Latin America by providing a platform for entrepreneurs to present their ideas and early stage startups to top entrepreneurs, venture capital firms, and policy makers from the region.

The competition is held at the MIT Latin America Business Conference, and provides a unique opportunity for entrepreneurs to network with top executives from Latin America, potential investors, MIT faculty, and students.

In December 2015 Mariano was appointed as the National Secretary for Entrepreneurs and Small & Medium Enterprises, which belongs to the Minister of Production in Argentina. Before this, he was Head of the General Direction of Entrepreneurship of Buenos Aires City, which belongs to the Undersecretary of Creative Economy, both established as part of the new "Innovation Plan" for the City. Since 2000 Mariano has actively participated as a lawyer, in start-ups, investment and sale of new companies, and has advised both entrepreneurs as well as funds. He also teaches in several institutions dedicated to promote the entrepreneur activity in Argentina.

He received a BA in Law and Economics from the Tecnologico de Monterrey, the most recognized entrepreneurial university in Mexico where he currently acts as an active professor. He worked for an intellectual property firm for 2 years and then as a Marketing Manager for 3 years at Hasbro, a multinational toy and games company. He is currently an investor in 10 startups and board member in 3 of them. Furthermore, he is one of the founding members of the Mexican Crowd Funding Association (AFICO) which is in charge of the industryÔÇÖs regulatory framework.
